The domain firedowndrop.com was registered July 22nd, 2003. I had the forum up either the same day or the next.
This isn't to say FDD is only 5 years old; just the .com incarnation. I had the EZBoard forum up months before it got shutdown and forced me to move to a better hosting solution. This place has gone through some cool times. Getting hacked yearly ( Looking back on the last 5 years of FDD has been a cool walk down memory lane. But...I wonder about the future. Those 4,800+ members we have? Over 4,000 of them haven't posted anyting. At all. Ever. Which kinda saddens me. People get all the way registered, and then don't post anything. The last year, the forums have pretty much been dead. Which I can understand: FDD doesn't *really* have a purpose anymore like most other websites. It doesn't produce anything. It doesn't have anything truly unique to it, besides the elclectic smattering of you crazies reading this. It wasn't always like this. FDD used to be pretty damn busy with anime, manga, music and videogame trading thanks to Streamload. But with the advent of torrents and free services like RapidShare, MegaUpload and SendSpace, paying for a digital media download/storage system is somewhat antiquated (my main reason for dropping Streamload). So. What next? Will this place dwindle down to nothing, finally vanishing off my credit card payments one day? Or will it thrive, spawning some new, unique content, bringing in new people and shiny new things to talk about? It's up to you, the reader. Bring people in. Participate. Voice opinions. Find us a motherfscking translator for FDD-Subs. Find us a translator for doing manga scans. Anyways, enjoy the day. Go grab some Mountain Dew, queue up some anime, and maybe kill a goose. The sidewalks will thank you. See you at the 10 year anniversary (here's hoping we get to that). EDIT: I had this up 3 weeks ago, and forgot to auto-approve it on the correct date. Ho-hum.

This is a good year for milestones. We'll be hitting the 5 year anniversary soon, we just hit 50k posts, and it would be nice if we hit 5,000 members before the end of the year.

If you try and log in to the forums, instead of using your username, you'll use the email address that's related to your desired login name. This is to help curb malicious brute force logins.

In an attempt to keep up with present day anime trends as well as to appeal to a broader base of fans (and thus expanding our community) 'new' anime from this season is going to begin to be offered for direct download on Fire Down Drop.
Your computer to slow or just loath torrents for some reason? Maybe you just hate waiting for them? Well, Nayuki-chan here is your savior! I will be torrenting all of the newest anime this season as it is offered to the public and will be uploading it to our servers every Wednesday and Sunday. This means, if you're patient enough, you will be able to direct download all of the new goodies from Sunday/Monday/Tuesday on Thursday morning and all of the stuff from Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday (which will be the most, since most releases are Fridays) on Monday morning~ While I do not have a list immediatly available I will be striving to upload everything that is new to the fall season. Expect the first few updates to be slow as I will attempt to download all of the episodes of the new season anime I have missed thus far and upload them in a couple massive upload sessions. If you have a request that I somehow overlook during this time, please let me know. I will be running a bit ragged I am sure with this big of a project and am bound to unfortunatly miss a release or two here or there. This is Nayuki, the queen of hentai, hoping that you're all having a fun time and will enjoy this new service. As always, let me know if there's anything at all I can provide to better your experience here, later all Edit: Of note, our server does not have infinite storage capacity of course. There will be a cycling system where every 28 days the oldest seven days worth of uploads will be removed from the server. This means that you will have roughly a month to download whatever you want before it is removed from the server. I will strive to place everything on backup media (burnable DVDs) so if someone desires media that has expired they can still get it shortly, but DVDs and such are a questionable resource (easilly break, scratch, etc) and along with uploading/torrenting I will likely just brush it off now and then so I have a little 'me' time on my computer. If this goes well I will see to procuring a second cable line and a couple skeleton computers so I can have them running the torrents/uploads and burning continuously without taxing my main system - allowing me to enjoy myself as well as providing you all the media you could want. This is future plans, mind you, and only if the whole process seems to do well and we see an extra influx of people because of our offered downloads. I sincerely hope you will warmly invite such folks if/when they do start flowing in, and don't scare them all off Thanks again for your dedication to our little forum, take care~

Once again Kyoani has taken up the monumental task of adapting one of Key's finest works into a one-season series.
Clannad, notoriously not only by far the longest but one of the most moving Visual Novels made by Key, has begun airing this Fall. The first two episodes have been fansubbed and I have nothing but love for what KyoAni has done so far. And no need to worry about awkwardly worked around ero moments, folks! Unlike the KyoAni adaptations of Kanon and A I R (which were both INCREDIBLY well done), Clannad was a 'clean' game with no ero content at all so the anime is safe~ I strongly recommend that everyone watch this series this fall as it is released. If you havn't seen them, I will be uploading Kanon 2006 and A I R to the servers by next weekend for all to enjoy and will begin uploading Clannad eps as they are released. VIVA LA KEY!!! Edit: Note, if you HAVE seen Kanon 2006, MAKOTO DOESN'T FUCKING GO AUUU! Sure, it's cute. Sure, it's adorable. Sure, it's a complete bastardization of her character and she never does it in the game or the first anime - except near the very end where, for reasons I won't spoil, she more or less can't say anything else. Don't bastardize my beloved Makoto with extra cute things she never did in the game, KyoAni! I curse you that one thing! |
