But pretty soon, everything hosted on accretious.org will be. I just can't justify spending $120 a year on a site I don't use.

In other news, I won't be around much.

Happy 2009.

Forum is back up. I turned it off for a bit just to see what would happen.

Now that I'm no longer curious, it's back to business as usual, with a few tweaks to the forums and subforums for a more 'streamlined' look.

The domain firedowndrop.com was registered July 22nd, 2003. I had the forum up either the same day or the next.

This isn't to say FDD is only 5 years old; just the .com incarnation. I had the EZBoard forum up months before it got shutdown and forced me to move to a better hosting solution.

This place has gone through some cool times. Getting hacked yearly ( biggrin.gif ), having its own fansub section for a time, being well known in the Streamload trade circle, appearantly getting listed in a gaming magazine as an up-and-coming site (anybody up for the challange of finding that actual article?), pissing off the previous host with constant bandwidth usage, pissing off the current host with massive bandwidth usage (nothing like waking up to a "This site has been banned" email), and not to mention the lore and traditions that the members have helped to create (cooking n00bs, senseless goose slaughter, using kittens as armies, Fermented Mountain Dew, etc.).

Looking back on the last 5 years of FDD has been a cool walk down memory lane.

But...I wonder about the future. Those 4,800+ members we have? Over 4,000 of them haven't posted anyting. At all. Ever. Which kinda saddens me. People get all the way registered, and then don't post anything.

The last year, the forums have pretty much been dead. Which I can understand: FDD doesn't *really* have a purpose anymore like most other websites. It doesn't produce anything. It doesn't have anything truly unique to it, besides the elclectic smattering of you crazies reading this.

It wasn't always like this. FDD used to be pretty damn busy with anime, manga, music and videogame trading thanks to Streamload. But with the advent of torrents and free services like RapidShare, MegaUpload and SendSpace, paying for a digital media download/storage system is somewhat antiquated (my main reason for dropping Streamload).

So. What next? Will this place dwindle down to nothing, finally vanishing off my credit card payments one day? Or will it thrive, spawning some new, unique content, bringing in new people and shiny new things to talk about?

It's up to you, the reader. Bring people in. Participate. Voice opinions. Find us a motherfscking translator for FDD-Subs. Find us a translator for doing manga scans.

Anyways, enjoy the day. Go grab some Mountain Dew, queue up some anime, and maybe kill a goose. The sidewalks will thank you.

See you at the 10 year anniversary (here's hoping we get to that).

EDIT: I had this up 3 weeks ago, and forgot to auto-approve it on the correct date. Ho-hum.

This is a good year for milestones. We'll be hitting the 5 year anniversary soon, we just hit 50k posts, and it would be nice if we hit 5,000 members before the end of the year.
